Description
This coveted Draped Bust half cent was minted in 1802, displaying the C-1 reverse design used just one year. Struck at the Philadelphia mint, Lady Liberty faces right on the obverse, wearing a mob cap and hair tied with a ribbon. The reverse depicts a wreath surrounding the denomination. Despite light wear, all major design elements are visible and it retains decent eye appeal for the VG (Very Good) grade level.
As an early 19th century half cent, this coin is steeped in history. The fledgling United States Mint was still finding its footing, having just resumed copper coin production after a hiatus in the late 1790s. Mintage for the date was a modest 20,266 pieces, of which few remain today. Any collector specializing in early copper or type coins will appreciate this survivor.
While uncertified, the coin offers a budget-friendly opportunity to acquire an example of both this historic one-year type and the brief Draped Bust design. Ideal for type set collectors or anyone fascinated by the early Mint and its coinage. The surfaces exude originality with no distracting marks or impairments.
